12 Days of Christmas Blog Hop!!!

So if you are anything like me - time has flown and you can't believe that it is already December! How in the world did that happen?  I am still not in holiday mode, but I'm really trying to get there!  If you are in the same boat as me or are just ready to dig into Christmas Projects, I have some exciting news for you!

I have joined forces with some amazing people @ Honeybearz Designs' 12 DAYS OF CHRISTMAS BLOG HOP

We are already at Day 8, but don't worry you can still join in the incredible projects and presents! So, many designers/bloggers have joined in to give you lots of ideas and projects for Christmas everyday! Make sure you head on over to Honeybearz' blog for all the details, including links to each day and the opportunity to win blog candy prizes! But remember - everyone is a winner because you all get amazing inspiration! So don't miss a thing!

Here are today's projects but remember to visit Lisa's blog to get all the details and links to the other projects:

I have the great honor of being a Guest Designer for today and I'm excited to share my project with you!

Every year I send out Christmas cards and every year it is a card that I designed and send out to get printed. That means I also get family pictures taken each Fall/Winter for the card.  My family doesn't enjoy that part very much but they are usually pretty cooperative! One of my little brothers and his wife recently started up a photography business - so they did a little photo session with my family over the Thanksgiving weekend!  We did a little trade - he took my photos and I designed some Christmas cards for him to use for his customers.  I did about 8 designs for him and since they were already designed - I decided to go ahead and actually use one of the designs for MY Christmas Card this year!

This was the template design:

I used my Christmas Wrap Kit for the papers and created it so the card was really about the PHOTOS, but left a little room for sentiments! I created this template specifically for a 4x8 card from VistaPrint.com.

I always enjoy sharing more than 1 photo on a card, so this was really fun to use. I created the card so you could use 4 photos - but I was able to customize it to actually include 7 photos for my card!

This is my result:

I love how it turned out - such fun colors and full of my family!

Now, something for you!  I am offering my template design of this card for you to download today! It is a transparent PNG file, so you will just need to go stick your photos under the PNG file in your graphics program and then you can add anything you would like - text, photos, and other images. Remember my template was created to the specifications from VistaPrint.com to create a 4x8 card. It might not work for other printing companies. Also remember that this is for personal-use only!

Thanks so much for visiting me today! If you have never been to my blog before - I hope you take a look around and come back and see me!

Monday Magic: Gardner Village Bloggers Night Out + Giveaway

I had the most amazing opportunity to go to the

Gardner Village
Bloggers Night Out

hosted by Gardner Village and My Craft Channel

I feel so blessed to have hooked up with some great Utah Bloggers and this was one of my first experiences! I want to give my thanks to Marcia Johns (Marketing Director at Gardner Village), the owners of Gardner Village, all of the shop owners, and the team at My Craft Channel for making this incredible night possible! Seriously - a huge highlight of this year for me! Thank you - thank you - thank you!

If you are in or visiting Utah - Gardner Village is an amazing place you just can't miss!  Seriously! And I think that the Fall is the perfect season to check it out. They have amazing "Witchy" things going on - so check it all out!

Also you gotta check out My Craft Channel - such wonderful constant inspiration for you!

#gardnervillage

Gardner Village in West Jordan, Utah contains the outlines of the once bustling early Utah mill industry and history. What remains today is a cluster of retail specialty shops located in restored cabins, houses and buildings nestled adjacent to the Gardner Mill. Now listed on the National Historic Register, the old flour mill is home to Archibald's Restaurant and Country Furniture & Gifts.

Vintage pioneer architecture, antique fixtures, red brick paths and bridges over a pond, create a relaxing and enjoyable atmosphere for shopping, dining and discovering some of Utah's most colorful history.

It is the first of its kind online craft TV network that features top craft celebrities from across the country. It brings the blogger, crafter and scrapbook community together in one place to provide inspiration through broadcast quality shows in various categories from sewing, scrapbooking, DIY projects, mixed media, stamping, home décor, digital hybrid crafts, photography, party planning, product reviews and more!

Mission Statement: To create a massive network of talented women that gives us a voice and a platform to share our message to a larger mainstream audience. Also, by working together with manufacturers and retailers in the craft sector, our goal is to complete the circle by providing inspiration to the end user through broadcast quality shows.

The night started with a meet-up of all the bloggers and some yummy appetizers from Archibald Restaurant!

We were then sent loose on a fabulous scavenger hunt through 20 shops!  I loved the way they set this night up. We received a tote bag and a Scavenger Hunt card.  We would go to a store where we would receive wonderful swag and get to wander through the amazing products in the store - then we would get a little stamp on our card and be sent off to the next store! Our first stop was to HighLite Photography where we got to apply some fun mustaches and take some photos! I was excited to meet up with Michelle Powell and Jodi Miller,  who I hung out with the remainder of the night!

I seriously could have spent hours and hours wandering through these charming little stores - so much to see and I wanted so many things!  Such unique gifts that you are not able to get anywhere else!  I loved picking up a couple of treats for my kids - which they loved!

They were all set up for Fall and Halloween and it was so fun to see all the decorations and cutesy products! One of Gardner Village's most amazing events - Witchfest has started and its a wonderful tradition to share with your family! I want to take my kids back - I think they would love it! Fall has definitely become my favorite season. I love the cooler temperatures and just the spirit in the air - Gardner Village is a great place to experience FALL!

After we completed our shop wandering, we headed to a fabulous chocolate fountain with lots of tasty treats, more visiting and meeting with other bloggers, and prizes.

We had the most amazingly fun host - Lucinda, the Gardner Village Witch. She was so hilarious as she gave out prizes and chatted with us, who she lovingly referred to as cloggers.

I also got to finally meet Amber from Quilted Euphoria in person! It was fun to sit by her and visit!

All-in-all it was one of the best times I have had in a long time. I think one of the best things about being a blogger is meeting new friends and making new connections!

So, how would you like a little piece from Gardner Village?

I'm excited to be able to offer one lucky winner their own

Monday Magic - Crafty Wood Cut-outs Tutorial & Giveaway

I'm so excited to be able to share about a fabulous crafty store that is just a few blocks away from my house. It is the place to go for cute wooden letters and wood crafts. They also have an online store, so even if you don't live in Utah - you can purchase these fabulous projects.

Crafty Wood Cutouts
631 North 1200 West
Orem, Utah

It has been open for not quite a year and I have driven past it several times, but I finally had the opportunity to go inside. When I walked in, I immediately wanted every single project they sell!

The wood kits come pre-packaged with all of the pieces you need already cut and sanded for you.  Did you read that - they are already sanded for you! How amazing is that! The store also carries paper, glitter, paint, wire, embellishments, ribbon, and Mod Podge to help you decorate your projects. They also offer classes, reasonable prices, and they even have a fun kids place, with coloring pages, books, and movies to keep your kids entertained while you wander the store. You can bet that I will be frequenting this store often - can you say Christmas presents?

After wandering around in awe, I just couldn't seem to narrow down my choice for a first project. So I went ahead and chose TWO! Halloween is coming up and I thought I needed a new decoration! I chose the BOO Letter Set and the Picket Fence.

Example at the store

As I began gathering supplies to complete my project, my husband had the amazing idea that I should use my own designs. I LOVED it and jumped at the chance to create a new Halloween kit! So I spent the next couple of days designing a kit with this project in mind. When I finished the papers that I wanted to use for my BOO project, I had them printed at Persnickety Prints and then I was finally set to go!

Digital Papers

Just Say Boo!
to come to my store soon!

Okay everyone - I'm not honestly that crafty when it comes in the traditional sense. Give me some digital scrapbooking and design on the computer and I can do fine, but sometimes when it comes to working with real craft stuff - I goof up.

So that being said - this craft turned out pretty awesome. I'm actually really happy with it and I did goof up a little, but I'm learning and getting better - and actually I really LOVED it. So - I promise that these wood craft projects are fun and not hard at all - if I can do it, you can do it.

I loved it enough that I have some plans of making more for Christmas presents and I'm really excited.  But anyways, this BOO project only took me, probably 1 1/2 hours total to make. I actually did the painting on one day and the decorating on a different day.

So here are my unfinished wood pieces of the BOO and the fence, just taken out of the package.

Time to Paint. I have this thing with brown. I love it. I love it with every color - basically its my black. So, to be different - I used brown for my fence and the back and sides of all the pieces.

I painted the skull eyes and the ghost eyes and mouth.  After the paint dried, I added just a little bit of glitter. (I had some clear glitter paint that I used. Next time, I'll use mod podge and glitter.)

I also painted a bit of a border around the front of the letters - just in case the paper isn't exactly cut to the edge.

So after the paint dried, I used super glue (I didn't have wood glue) to piece the fence pieces together and it was done!

Next, I traced the letters onto my papers. I flipped the letters upside down and traced it on the back of the scrapbook paper. I then cut out it out using scissors. For the inside of the B, I actually used an exacto knife.

I applied a layer of mod podge a little at time and then smoothed out the paper onto the letters.

Then I applied another layer of mod podge over the top of the paper and let it dry.

Unfortunately, here is where I goofed. I didn't smooth the paper very good on the skull and I got an air bubble. After the mod podge dried, I took a safety pin and made a small hole where the air bubble was and then I smoothed it out with my hands the best I could. It actually worked pretty well!  I then applied another coat of mod podge.

After the mod podge completely dried, I began to decorate. I used brown polka dot ribbon and spider web ribbon tied into a bow for the B.I also added a glow-in-the dark spider underneath the ribbon.

For the Skull (O), I added 3 jewels to the bottom and then another glow-in-the-dark plastics spider. I glued the eyes on with super glue.

I then added 3 jewels to the "tail" of the Ghost (O) and another spider and of course glued the face on with super glue.

And then I was done! I love how it turned out! What do you think?

So, how would you like your own wood craft project?

I'm excited to be able to offer one lucky winner their own
BOO Letter Set project!

* Only includes the unfinished wood project

** If you are the winner and you live in Utah, you will be
