Family History TuesdayZ | Happy Place

Journaling Prompt:
Where are you the happiest?
Describe that place.

My Journaling:
I've never been happier than when I was with my family at Disneyland in December. Whenever I think of that special time I just feel so good inside and so happy that everything went so perfectly. It will be time that is treasured forever for my kids, my hubby and I.

So that is my HAPPY PLACE - Disneyland and whenever I stop and think about that magical place, I still get those wonderful happy feelings. I'm so glad for good memories and things we can treasure inside our hearts and return to when we need our happy place.

Each Tuesday, I am going to be offering prompts or ideas. If you don't write in your journal regularly - I am going to encourage you to write just ONCE A WEEK and answer the question/idea that I give on Tuesdays. These ideas hopefully will spark a memory and you will be able to capture that in what you write/record so that it can be left for your children/grandchildren/family/friends. Give as much detail as you can when answering.

Will you do this for me? Will you do this for your families? You can write it down in a journal, you can type it up on a computer or journaling software, you can take a recorder and talk, you can videotape your answers, you can even scrap a page with the journaling. It doesn't matter how you do this - it's just important that you do it. The memories, the dates, the information is the only real thing we can leave to our families when we are gone.

New for 2015! Journal CardZ. A very popular trend right now is Pocket Scrapbooking. Part of pocket scrapbooking is journaling cards. So to help you scrap my weekly Journal Prompts, I am offering up 4x6 and 3x4 cards for your use every week! These cards are great to use digitally or you can even print them out!

If I come up with other family history ideas - I will be sure to share it here too - and if you want to share with me your ideas - that would be wonderful and I'd be glad to share them here too. Just comment here or email me at dedesmith32@gmail.com.

Family History TuesdayZ | Looking Forward

Journaling Prompt:
What are you looking forward to the most?

My Personal Journaling:
I really feel like having something to look forward to is important in life - at least it is for me. Being able to plan and dream a bit and just have something to keep me going is really important.

Right now the thing I am looking forward to the most is actually not set in stone - but we are hoping to visit Disneyland in December again and this time we are hoping to take my brother and his family with us. I really really hope it happens! I love spending time with Cody, Becki and Mallory. They are truly more than just siblings/niece to me - they are some of my best friends and I want to share the magic that is Disneyland with them! I hope it happens!

Family History TuesdayZ | Call it a Family...

Journaling Prompt:
Write whatever comes to mind when you read this quote:

"Call it a clan, call it a network, call it a tribe, call it a family.
Whatever you call it, whoever you are, you need one."
- Jane Howard

My Personal Journaling:
I find this quote to definitely be true. Family is so important - actually the most important thing in the world to me.  My husband and kids are my life and they are what make my life complete. Without my family, it would really be hard to even live any kind of life. I also think that FAMILY doesn't have to be blood relatives.  I think the people that you most care about and the people who make life complete for you are family too. Also when I think of this quote, I think of the quote that "it takes a village....".  I know that the people who help raise my kiddos are so important too. I think of my childhood and besides my own parents, siblings, grandparents, etc, there were so many people in the small town that I grew up in that taught me and inspired me and are the reason I am who I am...they are family to me too.

I've struggled with some relationship issues with my parents and as much as I love and appreciate them - there are just some things that we have been dealing with. And when there are family issues, life is definitely hard. It's hard to not have a good relationship with family....family is needed and I'm so glad that I have my own husband and kids and other family members to get me through this rough time.

Family History TuesdayZ | Springtime Fun

Journaling Prompt:
What are your favorite things to do in the Spring?

My Personal Journaling:
Spring isn't my favorite. I'm more of a Fall/Winter person, but I do like seeing and smelling the new blossoms as they appear, so one of my favorite things to do is go for a walk when its still cool and just take in the beauty!

Family History TuesdayZ | New Things

Journaling Prompt:
What was the last new thing you tried?

My Personal Journaling:
I have a hard time trying new things. Change is a hard one for me.  So its hard to think of things that I have actually tried. The only real thing that I can think of is that I love new technologies. I think that's the only thing that I really love trying.  My husband and I are pretty good nerds and we love seeing new things come out in technology and we are usually one of the first to try it.  For instance - the Chromecast - yea, we were one of the first ones to own that and we love being able to use it to use our tv more. I have a iPhone 6+, we have several game systems, computers, and tablets. Yea, new technologies are a hit at our house.

Family History TuesdayZ | Favorite Sports Team

Journaling Prompt:
Do you have a favorite Pro Sports Team?
Why are they your favorite?

My Personal Journaling:
In high school, I played basketball and volleyball and I loved it. I didn't watch much Pro sports then, but if I did it was Utah Jazz Basketball. Joey is a football fan and so when I married him - football became the sport we watched and I have to admit now that I love it. We have had 2 teams that we have cheered for, mostly because of their quarterback, Peyton Manning.  So we were Indianapolis Colts fans and then when Peyton went to play for the Denver Broncos, we followed him. It's been a difficult year for the Broncos and we are anxious to hear what's going to happen.  If Peyton retires this year, we might just have to become Colts fans again!  :)

Family History TuesdayZ | Falling in Love

Journaling Prompt:
Describe when you knew
your spouse was the one
or how you fell in love.

My Personal Journaling:
I met my husband in January of 1998. I was in college and my husband's best friend was dating one of my roommates. He came over to find his friend and we met. I feel bad, but I don't actually remember the exact meeting. He does and for him he was interested in me from the get-go. I guess I made it a little hard for him and he took the next few weeks to try and grab my attention - coming over to our apartment, fixing things, etc. Finally he just asked me out and I was so surprised. I was so naive. I'd never had a boy like me before and it actually was a little overwhelming and I didn't know how to react. But eventually, I calmed down and within 2 weeks of our first date, we had our first kiss after spending just about every day together. The next 2 weeks after that, was filled with getting to know each other - a lot of talking and movie watching and just spending time together. And when about a month after our first date, Joey blurted out "Will you marry me?" (when we were dancing) - I said, "Yes." Of course it was like a year and a half later after we had dated a lot that the official proposal happened and we got married. But that night a month after we started dating - I KNEW. He really "got me." He knew how to make me laugh. We were both kind of home bodies and loved movies, books, and computers. He was so cute. He was really interested in ME - all of me. He made me feel good about myself. We were FRIENDS too. We loved being together. He wanted the same life as I wanted - to be married in the temple, to raise our family together..... We truly LOVED each other.

And I'm happy we still do.

Each Tuesday, I am going to be offering prompts or ideas. If you don't write in your journal regularly - I am going to encourage you to write just ONCE A WEEK and answer the question/idea that I give on Tuesdays. Family History TuesdayZ | Remember Me

Journaling Prompt: List 10 Things you would hope to be remembered for

Journaling Prompt:
List 10 things you would
hope to be remembered for

My Personal Journaling:
I hope not only to have people remember me as these things - I hope to actually BE these things. Some of the things on my list are things that I would like to be, and maybe I'm not there yet. I think by knowing the things that you want to leave for future generations, it will help you to make the right choices to become the person you want to be.

If my actions are what others will remember me by, then I might need to change some things that I do!

1. I want to be remembered for being a kind, loving, and caring person.

2. I want to be remembered as an all-service individual. Someone who helps others.

3. I want to be remembered as a good mom and wife - someone who makes her family happy and successful.

4. I want to be remembered as someone who loved books and movies and loved to share those with others.

5 I want to be remembered as a good and loyal friend. Someone with a listening ear and a comforting shoulder and someone who is always there for you.

6 I want to be remembered as a creative person. Someone who can create things that help others.

7. I want to be remembered as a happy person and someone who makes others happy.

8. I want to be remembered as someone who lives her religion and who has a testimony of the Savior.

9. I want to be remembered as someone who has no regrets.

10. I want to be remembered as someone who cares about Family History and family stories and helps others to share their stories. I want to leave a legacy of story-telling and memory-keeping. I want my friends/family to feel that journal-keeping and memories are so important to leave for the next generations.

Family History TuesdayZ | Ice Cream

Here is this week's journal prompt :

My Personal Journaling:

When we lived in Salt Lake City, there used to be a Ice Cream Shop called Snelgrove's.  Joey and I loved to stop in for a treat.  They had the best ice cream dish ever.  It was called the COOKIE MONSTER and it included my 2 favorite ice cream flavors all in one dish - Cookies 'n Cream and Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough. I love these 2 flavors together!

Family History TuesdayZ | Favorite Game

Here is this week's journal prompt :

My Personal Journaling:

I love all kinds of board and card games.  I love having game nights with friends and family!  I love that you can have fun playing and having great conversations at the same time!  My favorite game is a card game called PHASE 10. I learned to play it when I was in 7th grade and have been hooked on it ever since. It's a game that I definitely get competitive and I'm probably not that fun to play with, since I do have quite a bit of luck with it!

My favorite part of being a mom is spending time with my kids. I love it when I can see the qualities that we share and when I see them accomplish things that I never have.

My least favorite part of being a mom is discipline. I’m horrible at it and yet I know that it is so important to have boundaries and to guide my children through their lives.

If I come up with other family history ideas - I will be sure to share it here too - and if you want to share with me your ideas - that would be wonderful and I'd be glad to share them here too. Just comment here or email me at dedesmith32@gmail.com.
