Project 365: Week 9

Monday, February 23, 2009

So I finally took the kids to the doctor today - I figured this had gone on long enough. Turns out both of them have Bronchitis. So we got some medicine and the doctor said they could go to school tomorrow. I'm so looking forward to having my kids back. They have been really irritable and understandably. JJ really digresses in his behaviors and other development and it's been not good the past couple of weeks. It worries me a lot and I hope it is just that he is sick. We've got to get us all well before our California trip!

Tuesday, February 24, 2009

The kids went back to school today. They are still coughing quite a bit, but it seems a lot better! So hopefully we are on the mend. It was an incredibly nice day today. It is starting to feel like Spring. The kids and I went on a little walk and caught pictures of the sunset.

Wednesday, February 25, 2009

I got this little note in JJ's backpack today. I thought it was really sweet. And even better, JJ actually read this little book to us! It was so neat to hear him actually read! Sure it was a tiny book and very easy words - but it was still amazing to see him read! JJ also got an award yesterday from the school. I helps out in his classroom quite a bit with the other kids - so this was really neat!

Thursday, February 26, 2009

The kids were pretty good to each other today, which always is a plus. I had gotten a lot of sleep last night - I actually went to bed early Wednesday night (eight hours asleep - that never happens), so I got a lot more done and I was even able to catch (on camera) the kids giving each other kisses!

Friday, February 27, 2009

Beth is really getting into looking at books and especially the pictures. We got out our huge Animal Encyclopedia today and Beth pored over the pictures. She really loves animals so this was really fun for her. I really need to read to her more. I haven't made it a real priority and I need to do that. She loves stories and I think we could definitely have a big reader on our hands in a couple of years!

Saturday, February 28, 2009

The countdown to our California Trip has begun! The kids and I made a paper chain today - only 23 days to go. With all the things I want to accomplish before then - I just know it's going to be here before we know it. I'm really excited about this trip!

Sunday, March 1, 2009

We had Cody & Becki over for dinner tonight. I made Chicken Enchiladas with Tater Tots, Salad and Cream Puffs and Chocolate Pudding for Dessert. It was yummy and we were able to have a great chat with them, which was really great. I feel really grateful to be a part of their lives, even in a small way. It's nice to have some family close to us and the kids love them! Plus it's always great to have a conversation with adults once in a while! LOL Becki had made a Countdown Paper Chain for us too, so now we have two - which is actually even better because now the kids don't have to fight over who gets to tear the paper off every night - they will each have their own!

First Five

I found this on a friends blog and wanted to get creative myself! So the first 5 people to respond to this post will receive something made by me especially for you.

Of course there are some restrictions and limitations:
1} I make no guarantees that you will like what I make!
2} What I create will be just for you.
3} It will be done sometime this year.
4} You have no clue what it will be... it may be a story; it may be poetry or an article on properly cleaning your face before a masque. I may draw or paint something; I may bake something and mail it to you. Who knows? Not you, that's for sure.
5} I reserve the right to do something extremely strange.

NOTE: I'm pretty darn sure it's going to be digital scrapbook-related, because well that's just what I do :)

The catch? Oh, the catch is that you must re-post this on your blog and offer the same to the first 5 people who do the same on their blog.

It should be interesting to see what I can come up with...are you brave enough to join in on the fun?

UPDATE: Okay, thanks all for commenting and joining in. Sorry about the ones that don't have a blog....maybe you should get one. LOL Just kidding.

Okay, so here are the first 5 people that I will be creating something for. Please email me at dedesmith32@gmail.com with your blog address so I can make sure you post this okay? And I'll get to your projects sometime within in the next 6 months! :) Thanks!

High/Low - February 20th + Freebie

My LOW for this week is that JJ has been pretty sick. I hate it when my kids are sick, especially JJ, because along with him being sick - comes fevers. And with fevers comes seizures. Thankfully, this time there has been no seizures, but when he is sick there is always that possibility. So I don't sleep well and I'm always checking him to make sure he's okay. I just always feel so panicky and on edge because I fear the seizures so much. Hopefully he is on the mend and he'll be okay.

My HIGH for this week was last Saturday (Valentine's Day). I really enjoy going out with Joey. We don't get that a lot and it is just really great to be together no matter what we do. Movies and dinner are classic and perfect for us.

I have a little freebie that will coordinates with my upcoming new kit! HeroeZ and PlaymateZ: FriendZ from the Wood. I hope you enjoy it and look for the new kit coming in March!

Project 365: Week 8

Monday, February 16, 2009

The kids were feeling pretty shut in and JJ was feeling a little better, so we took an outing to Wal-Mart. Grandpa and Grandma Sorensen had sent some money for JJ's birthday and so he finally got to pick out some presents. He was able to get a toy computer and some Spiderman slippers. He even used a little of his money and bought his sister some little horse toys. JJ was so excited to have money and get some new things. He also paid his tithing for the FIRST TIME! So that's wonderful too!

JJ wants to thank Grandpa and Grandma Sorensen for the card and his new fun stuff and Grandpa and Grandma Smith for their card. He LOVES getting mail and loved to see his name on the envelopes. Thank you!

He wrote this himself (If you can't read it - it says - Thank you Love, JJ)

Tuesday, February 17, 2009

It snowed again! JJ stayed home from school - since he still wasn't feeling good - and I loved seeing their faces as they watched the snow come down. They are still so fascinated and excited about the snow. It was a very laid-back kind of day. We watched some movies. I tried to get some design work done. The kids played together pretty well today and that's always nice to see!

Wednesday, February 18, 2009

While JJ was in school today, I introduced one of my favorite stories to Beth. I grew up reading the Anne of Green Gables series and I still love it. I really enjoy the movies as well. Beth is a little young and the movies are VERY LONG...so we only made it about an hour into the first movie, but I think she enjoyed what she could understand. I hope to read her the books in a couple of years. These books meant a lot to me as a young girl and I hope I can carry on the love of books and stories to my children.

Thursday, February 19, 2009

JJ and Beth both woke up at 6:30 am this morning. I am not sure what was going on - but they wouldn't go back to sleep! That made for a real exhausting day today. They both had school and I worked all day on a new kit that I need to be done this weekend. I hope I can get it done. I was able to make a good dinner tonight - Stuffed Shells. I combined a couple of recipes and it turned out pretty good.

Friday, February 20, 2009

The kids were both sick AGAIN. But getting the mail brightened up the day. Grandpa and Grandma Smith sent some awesome stickers for the kids. Beth got princess stickers and JJ got Spiderman stickers. PERFECT! They had fun creating their paper masterpieces with the stickers. Thanks Grandpa and Grandma - you made their day!

Saturday, February 21, 2009

I have so much to do in the next 3 weeks - kit deadlines, challenges, chats, cleaning, packing and getting ready for our California vacation! Yikes! How am I going to get it all done! I see much more sleepless nights in my future. I made progress today though. Joey was sick, the kids were sick.....so I spent ALL DAY finishing up a new kit! I'm so excited about this kit series - HeroeZ and PlaymateZ. I guess it is because my kids are at a time in their life that movie characters are what they play and dream about. So I'm planning lots of Disney-inspired stuff and other fun characters - super heroes, princesses, etc. The first kit in the series is inspired by A.A. Milne's Winnie-the-Pooh and Friends. I'm really excited about how it turned out and I can't wait to see the reactions from the Digital Scrapbook Community - I hope they like it as much as I do.

(So you blog readers get a sneak preview now of my new kit - let me know what you think!)

Sunday, February 22, 2009

I was hoping that we were all on the mend and that I wouldn't get sick. But that didn't happen. I woke up so sick - very sore throat and no voice. We had to cancel our monthly dinner with Cody and Becki - which I'm very sad about because I was looking forward to visiting with them. But we rescheduled for next week. I missed singing in the choir for Ward Conference today too. I'm really ready for this sickness to leave our house. I think JJ is going to have to stay home tomorrow again too. UGH. I ended up getting more design work done today - additions to the new kit and getting ready for the March Challenges/Chats, but I'm still feeling the stress looming around. I really hope I can get it all done.

Joey's picture today says it all. This sickness is driving us all crazy. Okay, actually this picture is for Lauren. See, Joey can roll his tongue.

Here is my Week 8 Layout:

High/Low - February 13th

My LOW for this week is our stupid plumbing system. We had to empty our water heater and tear out a wall to get to our shower pipes to replace them. It has been a problem for awhile but Joey finally took care of it. (Thanks Joey and Clark)! I guess that's what we get for living in an old trailer. So now we need to repair walls and floors - but we are hoping that no more leaks or water running all the time!

My HIGH for this week is that I have felt happier than normal. Even though there has been some yucky things this week - I have just felt good. I have appreciated the little things more. There are so many things that I have just not accomplished this week - that needed to - but I actually feel okay about it. It's just kind of a different feeling for me. I think I finally understand what it means to choose to be happy and that feels good.

Project 365: Week 7

Monday, February 9, 2009

We got a light dusting of snow today. Looks like Winter isn't quite done yet. We are supposed to be getting more snow in the next couple of days too - so even though it melted a lot today, I think we will definitely be getting more. I actually love snow and rain. It washes over the world and gives us a new start.

It was time for JJ's yearly checkup. I still can't believe he's 7! We really like Dr. Cornish. He is very through and always has great suggestions on things we can do to help JJ in his development. JJ is growing right on schedule - 50.6 lbs and 3' 11". And in comparison to last year's checkup - his development has really showed lots of improvement! So a very good visit with the doctor today!

Wednesday nights for me are spent in the Digitals Chatroom. For about 2 years, I have hosted the OVER THE HUMP Chat and I have really enjoyed getting to know the members of the Digitals community. Not only has it helped my sales - but I have truly gained FRIENDS. I love all the different challenges that we have had and it is always just fun! I love my online friends and the chats truly help me feel connected with them and the members are always amazing to my ego! They are always make me feel good about myself and my creations and I'm always so overwhelmed by their generosity. Thank you FRIENDS! You made my day!

Last night, I had a nightmare about my Dad dying. It was so awful. I woke up crying. It was one of those dreams that just felt so real. I am such a daddy's girl. I just can't imagine having to live on this earth without him. I know that eventually that I will have to happen - but I really want it to be YEARS AND YEARS away. The dream has stayed with me all day. I love being with my dad. I love watching movies with him. I love listening in when he tells stories, especially those about our family's history. Now that I live 5 hours away from my hometown - I don't get to be with Dad and Mom much and I miss them. This dream has really affected me. I need to capture all the stories and memories. I need to spend more time with Dad. I hope he knows how much I love him....

Thursday, February 12, 2009

Today was Beth's Valentine's Day Party at School. Her very first Valentine's Party! She loved it. She was so excited! We got some simple Disney Princess Valentines (since I just didn't get the time to make some handmade ones) and I made some more of the Red Velvet Heart Cookies to take to her class. She came home with lots of treats and was so excited about the envelope they made out of paper plates! I'm so glad she had fun!

Friday, February 13, 2009

Today was JJ's Valentine's Day Party at School. We got him some Cars Valentines and it was exciting to watch him sign his name to them HIMSELF. I really treasured watching him write his name. I love it when I can see such improvement in his skills. I think JJ is helping me to appreciate the little things more. JJ had a fun envelope filled with Valentines when he got home, but unfortunately he had a bit of a bad day. He got hit in the head by a door and he had some bad behavior at school. I think the party was just a little too much for him today. But he did love all the candy. :)

Saturday, February 14, 2009

Joey and I celebrated our 11th Valentine's Day today! Our first date was February 6, 1998 and we celebrated our 1st Valentine's Day shortly after that and have been together ever since. I want Joey to know how very much I love him!

JJ was sick with a cold, but we were able to get Joey's brother Aaron to come babysit for us anyway. We went to a movie (Coraline) and to dinner (Olive Garden) with Curtis and Anne. We had a great time visiting and enjoying being together! Thanks guys for a great night!

Sunday, February 15, 2009

JJ had a pretty rough night - coughing and fever. I hate it when my kids are sick. :( We had Stake Conference for Church today and since JJ was sick, Joey stayed home with the kids. I had the opportunity to sing in the Stake Choir, so I went to conference. I really enjoyed the spirit of the songs that we were able to sing and it has really been neat to be a part of our ward choir.

The kids really love making "tents" out of their blankets and pillows. JJ made this tent for his sister and I thought it was pretty great!'

High/Low - February 6th + Freebie

My LOW for this week is that it is was once again that time of the month. BLAH!

My HIGH for this week is that I got my new camera yesterday! It came a day early and that made it very exciting! I got a Nikon D40. Yes, it's an entry level DSLR and I'll eventually outgrow it - but for now, it was the right price and I'm really enjoying it. I took SO many photos yesterday, just playing around with the settings. I can't wait to start researching and learning what I can do with it. SO MUCH FUN!

Here are 3 of my favorites from my very first batch of photos with my Nikon (I think the kids were having just as much fun posing for me as I was taking the photos. Lately, they have been getting sick of all the photos I am taking - but I guess I just needed a new camera to make it exciting):

Okay, so don't forget to come back tomorrow for the upcoming C.H.U.G.S Valentine Blog Train from Digitals! I am giving away a mini-kit over the course of the next 8 days and it all starts tomorrow! You won't want to miss it! Here's your sneak preview of the kit:

Project 365: Week 6

Monday, February 2, 2009

JJ didn't have a school - teacher development day - so we just hung out at home. The kids were feeling better today and they were really feeling a bit shut-in, so we decided to go for a walk. We got the mail and just went on a short walk around the trailer park. We spent most of the day watching movies, cleaning up, and making hearts.

Tuesday, February 3, 2009

I felt pretty awful today. Thank goodness that Joey was able to take Beth to and from school for me. When Beth got back, we hung out on my bed playing ponies and watching The Swan Princess so I could get a little more rest. When JJ got home, we hung out with Cody and Becki for awhile, since Cody needed my computer for a school project.

Bedtime came and I put the kids to bed. Later I went in to check on them and there was JJ, once again resisting sleep. He had his head where his feet should be and of course was kicking with his legs - trying to stay awake. He gets so tired, but he is like his Dad in that he hates to go to sleep.

Wednesday, February 4, 2009

JJ came home from school today with a yellow post-it note from his teacher! He had a great day! And he was so excited to tell me the things he did at school. He usually doesn't tell us much about his day, so this was really neat. He had made some things at school that he couldn't wait for us to see tomorrow. He remembered what he had for lunch - corn dogs. And most of all he was really happy. I love days like this!

Thursday, February 5, 2009

Today was an exciting day! We got to go to school lunch with JJ, even Dad was able to come. And it was PIZZA DAY, so that made lunch extra special. After lunch we met with JJ's teacher, Mrs. Rains and got to hear how much JJ is improving. We learned more about what JJ is doing at school and we learned that JJ is reading at a Kindergartener level which is amazing! We are so proud of our boy.

Then to top off an already amazing day - shortly after we returned home, a big package arrived. My new camera came a day early! YAY! So for the rest of the day, I played with my new Nikon D40. I'm so excited to finally get a DSLR camera and I can't wait to learn all that I can do with it!

Friday, February 6, 2009

I love the Scrap Girls Luncheons. It's such a great time-out from life! We met at Mimi's Cafe this time and I brought Beth with me. It was really nice to have a little date with my daughter and we had a lot of other Scrap Girls with their kids this time - so it was a lot of fun!

Saturday, February 7, 2009

Once again we have another pipe leak. We are getting pretty sick of it. Hopefully we can get it taken care of soon. The kids helped Dad patch it up! It was a pretty lazy Saturday. I didn't feel to well - so I got to have a long nap, which was good. The kids really played well together and it was a quiet day.

Sunday, February 8, 2009

One of my favorite blogs, Bakerella, had a great recipe today that we just had to try. We really like homemade Oreos - and this recipe was even better - we used red velvet cake instead of devil's food cake! Perfect for Valentine's Day! We cut out little hearts from the cookies and made bite-sized goodies! SO GOOD!

And here is my Week 6 Layout!
