My Recipe Magic

Instead of a recipe today, I have something different for you!

I had the opportunity to attend a special event, where a brand-new site was opened! The site is a new collaboration of The Six Sisters called My Recipe Magic.  It is indeed a magical site where you can put all your recipes together and can even make a little "dough" if you want!

I'm so impressed by this site and I'm so excited about adding my own recipes and collecting all of it together.  I love The Six Sisters and it was amazing to meet them and share in the opening of this site! I had a great time rubbing shoulders with other bloggers and eating some fabulous crepes. It was a way fun night!

So MY RECIPE MAGIC is a gathering place for all of your favorite food blogs.  You can add thousands of recipes to make cookbooks and see the nutritional value of the dishes. You can even add your own recipes and keep them in a private cookbook and/or share them with the world by making it public! If you have a blog and you blog about your recipes, you can even make a little money, depending on how many recipes you upload and how many people look at, share, comment, etc on your recipe.  CHECK OUT this great description of the site - perfect for food lovers, food bloggers, and even those of you who just want to share recipes!

So what are you waiting for?
Head on over to the My Recipe Magic site
and get started! You know you want to!

Family History TuesdayZ | Standing Up

Here is this week's journal prompt :

Each Tuesday, I am going to be offering prompts or ideas. If you don't write in your journal regularly - I am going to encourage you to write just ONCE A WEEK and answer the question/idea that I give on Tuesdays. These ideas hopefully will spark a memory and you will be able to capture that in what you write/record so that it can be left for your children/grandchildren/family/friends. Give as much detail as you can when answering.

Will you do this for me? Will you do this for your families? You can write it down in a journal, you can type it up on a computer or journaling software, you can take a recorder and talk, you can videotape your answers, you can even scrap a page with the journaling. It doesn't matter how you do this - it's just important that you do it. The memories, the dates, the information is the only real thing we can leave to our families when we are gone.

If I come up with other family history ideas - I will be sure to share it here too - and if you want to share with me your ideas - that would be wonderful and I'd be glad to share them here too. Just comment here or email me at dedesmith32@gmail.com.

Sledding

So one of the fun features of this house is that our yard makes a great sledding hill! We have had really fun the past couple of months! We finally purchased some sleds and have had plenty of snow to go sledding. Beth pretty much asks to go sledding everyday. My kids have never experienced sledding until this year, so it has definitely been a highlight of the winter!

(Of course, I picked a poor day to finally take some photos of it. We didn't have much snow that day and I still can't find my battery charger for my phone, so I'm using my iphone-so not very good pictures!)

Family History TuesdayZ | Nicknames

Here is this week's journal prompt :

My Journaling:
In third grade, my class members and I gave each other nicknames. I cannot remember how I ended up with the nickname "Twitterpated".  Eventually that was shortened to "Tweeder" and then to "Tweety." So the famous Tweety bird became my mascot and my nickname.

Each Tuesday, I am going to be offering prompts or ideas. If you don't write in your journal regularly - I am going to encourage you to write just ONCE A WEEK and answer the question/idea that I give on Tuesdays. High/Low + Freebie | February 15, 2013

My LOW this Week is that my motivation/focus issue is really rearing its ugly head. I'm so tired of not being able to focus and be creative.

My HIGH for this Week is that we finally took care of our our 2 ancient vehicles that have just been rusting away in our yard. We got a bit of cash for them - wish it was more - but just relieved to finally have them gone.  I'm feeling so blessed for the wonderful van we have had since October. Such a blessing!

Other highs:

* Even though I don't have the focus/motivation for my design work - I found some creativity in doing some wood crafts that turned out amazingly well and I had such fun completing them! It's definitely a new obsession of mine!

* I am part of a new book group and have really been enjoying reading "Unbroken: A World War II Story of Survival, Resilience, and Redemption by Laura Hillenbrand!"

I have a freebie for you today - the next in my ChibiZ Collection - meet SULLY! Have a great weekend!

Family History TuesdayZ | Surprises

Here is this week's journal prompt :

My Journaling:
One of the biggest surprises in my life was the way in which my husband formally proposed. We had talked about marriage and I knew we were going to get married, but I didn't know when he would actually ask me. I never would have guessed that it would be in front of my entire family at Christmas time!  He wrapped up a CD Case - so I of course, thought his present was going to be music. I opened it up, and it was a blank CD Case with a small note inside that said "Turn around." I turned around and Joey was on one knee and he asked me to marry him. I hurled myself into his arms and was quite embarrassed when I realized that I didn't even answer him!  Of course I told him Yes.

LeanMoms.com

I have the most amazing opportunity to share with you!
I have been given the chance to participate
in something that is already changing my life.
The LeanMoms Soft to Sculpted Program!

Today marks my starting of Day 1 in Week 3 in this program and I am so excited about it. I have tried and failed to get fit in the past - many many many times. I have to admit that I love food and I hate exercising - two things that make it really hard to lose weight. But I am starting to realize that it is truly a lifestyle change and it just takes one small step at a time.

After 2 weeks in the program, I can safely say that I am very weak and yet I feel stronger. I can say that I am tired and yet I have more energy. And I can say that I'm ready for more! This is the first time in a long time that I have found a real motivation to keep going and to better myself.  I WANT to look good. I WANT to feel good. I WANT to be good. I am truly ready to give this my all to be better this year.

One of the ways, that I am going to do this is by sharing with all of you - at least once a month - my progress through this Soft to Sculpted Journey.

Now, I'm so not perfect. I really am very weak after not working out for years and years.  I have to go with the low weights. I have to only do 1 or 2 repetitions of each exercise. I struggle with the meal plan......but with one small change at a time and keeping at it, I know that eventually, I can build myself up to doing everything. But for the first time - I KNOW that I can do it. This program with the motivation and inspiration from Lacy has truly made the difference for me. It also makes a difference for me that I can do it at home. The program also has the preferable option of doing it at a gym, but after purchasing a few equipment for home (weights, resistance bands, exercise ball, etc.) you can do it at home and that is the route I have chosen to go!

Now, I have been so embarrassed about this BEFORE photo I took (I have chickened out several times about sharing it - but it is about accountability right?) And I don't know that after 2 weeks, I look any better. But I FEEL better and that really makes it worth it to keep going. I look forward to the day that I can share a photo that I AM NOT embarrassed about....

So, I would love to encourage you all to
check out the LeanMoms.com site and see if it
could be the change that you need in YOUR life!

Let me know if you decide to join - because
I would love to share this journey with you!

Disclosure: This is a sponsored post for LeanMoms.com. I received the soft-to-sculpted program to review for this post. The views expressed in this post are my own.

Grand America's Scavenger Hunt

One of our Christmas traditions is to do a fun activity everyday as a family. Last year the Grand America's Scavenger Hunt was one of our favorites and so we had to do it again!

It's a beautiful hotel and they have these fun windows that they decorate all up for Christmas. This year's theme was Christmas Around the World. We picked up our "passports" and had to visit the windows for the way different countries say "Christmas." At the end we had to get our passports stamped at the toy store and then we got to visit the bakery for a yummy cookie!

The kids love the activity and this year's was really awesome with the realistic passports! So fun!

Recipe Thursday - Pretzel Dogs

This week's Recipe:
This is the perfect combination! Yummy salty pretzels wrapped around a juicy hot dog! Make them today!

Pretzel Dogs
by DeDe Smith

1 ¼ cups warm water
1 ½ t. yeast
3 T. corn syrup
1 teaspoon salt
3 to 3 1/2 cups flour

1 package hot dogs

1 egg white
4-5 tbsp Kosher salt

Let the yeast, water, corn syrup, and salt sit in a medium bowl for 5 minutes.

Add the flour to create a smooth and elastic dough, kneading on the counter to get desired results.

Let the dough rise until doubled, 30 to 60 minutes.

After it has risen, divide it into 16 pieces.  Cut your hot dogs in half so you also have 16 pieces.

Take hot dog piece and wrap one of the balls of dough around it and seal it off. Continue with the remaining pieces. Place them a few inches apart on a parchment-lined or greased baking sheet.

Cover and let the rolls rise for another 30-45 minutes.

Gently cut slits in the top of the roll, brush the tops with egg white and then sprinkle generously with Kosher salt.

Bake at 425 for 10-14 minutes until golden brown.
