Tuesday Thoughts

Today, in my daily scripture study session, I came across a quote that just really struck home with me:

"Let us be of good cheer as we go about our lives. Although we live in increasingly perilous times, the Lord loves us and is mindful of us. He is always on our side as we do what is right. He will help us in time of need. Difficulties come into our lives, problems we do not anticipate and which we would never choose. None of us is immune. The purpose of mortality is to learn and to grow to be more like our Father, and it is often during the difficult times that we learn the most, as painful as the lessons may be. Our lives can also be filled with joy as we follow the teachings of the gospel of Jesus Christ."
- President Thomas S. Monson

The concept of being happy - finding joy in the journey, is not new, but I find myself needing this reminder constantly. As I sit here in front of my computer, with a beautiful morning breeze coming through the open sliding door, I am feeling that joy. I don't often feel it - like I said, I need the "be of good cheer" reminder often - but I'm feeling it today and that's enough. It's enough to make me want the best today that I can make it. My house is fairly clean, I'm working through the laundry, I'm ready to turn on my audiobook and get the dishes done. I'm ready to delight in my children when they get home from school - maybe take a break from chores and do a puzzle or something. I'm ready to get some more design time in. I'm ready to go take a walk in the beautiful morning air and just maybe I'm ready to do something a little courageous. There is something that has been on my mind (a lot) for me to get done and I haven't been brave enough to do it yet - but maybe today is the day.

Now, if I could just find joy in my daily work-out, that would be something. But that is one thing that I'm dreading. Maybe I'll substitute a walk instead......

Revolt | Week 9

The Revolt Now Fitness Program with Nichole Huntsman!

So today marks Day 1 of Week 9 for me!

I'm a little disappointed in myself today. After a weekend of the stomach flu, I lacked energy and just couldn't make it through the workout today. I did what I could, but I'm sad that I'm not making much progress. I have to remember to take a little at a time and I'll get there!

I encourage you all to find something that works for you.  I have to say that the Revolt plan is highly affordable and something you can totally do at home with a few exercise equipment (weights and stability ball). You don't have to have a gym membership and you can do it on your own schedule. It's only 9.99 a month! I think you owe it to yourself to try it out!

I'm excited to share my journey with you - at least once a week, I'll be letting you know how its going for me!

So, I would love to encourage you all to
check out the RevoltNowFitness.com and see if it
could be the change that you need in YOUR life!

Let me know if you decide to join - because
I would love to share this journey with you!

Revolt | Week 8

The Revolt Now Fitness Program with Nichole Huntsman!

So today marks Day 1 of Week 8 for me!

I am excited to say that I lost 4 lbs this last week!  Huge progress for me, especially since I didn't actually complete all the workouts last week. I went to Southern Utah on a quick trip for a family funeral and so I missed 2 work-outs, but I've been doing better with my food portions and it has really showed! Yay!

Revolt | Week 7

The Revolt Now Fitness Program with Nichole Huntsman!

So today marks Day 1 of a new 6-week uprising

I am completely in love with the new workouts. Nichole has broken it up into 3 levels - Beginner, Intermediate and Advanced! I am a definite beginner and in the last uprising, I could never completely finish all the circuits, but now that I can start with a beginner level, I made it through all 4 circuits today! I'm so proud of myself and I can't wait to build up to doing more!

I encourage you all to find something that works for you.  I have to say that the Revolt plan is highly affordable and something you can totally do at home with a few exercise equipment (weights and stability ball). Recipe Thursday - Cheesy Potato Dogs

This week's Recipe:
Couldn't be easier than this one, especially if you have some leftover mashed potatoes!

Cheesy Potato Dogs
by DeDe Smith

16 Hot Dogs
10 cups Mashed Potatoes
2 cups grated cheese

Split hot dogs lengthwise and spread out on a tin-foil lined baking sheet. Top each hot dog with mashed potatoes and cheese. Put in 400 degree oven for 20 minutes.

Each Thursday, I am going to be sharing a recipe with you! I will pick a recipe from my collection and I will be sharing where I got the recipe and everything. But I am going to include my own photo of the finished food, the original recipe, and try and share the things I changed when I made it!

I would love your help too! If you have a great recipe, especially week-night dinner recipes (but I would love    all kinds of recipes) - please share it with me, by emailing me at dedesmith32@gmail.com. Revolt | Week 6

The Revolt Now Fitness Program with Nichole Huntsman!

So today marks Day 1 of Week 6!  It's the last week for this uprising and then its on to the next uprising!

So far, I have lost 7 lbs. It's not as much as I would like to have lost by now, but my mental results are definitely better than my physical results. I FEEL better. I FEEL stronger. I have more energy and I FEEL happier. So even though physically I may not look that much better - I feel like I have made so much progress.

I encourage you all to find something that works for you.  I have to say that the Revolt plan is highly affordable and something you can totally do at home with a few exercise equipment (weights and stability ball). Recipe Thursday - Honey Wheat Bread

This week's Recipe:
I have been wanting to try baking bread for awhile. I make rolls and artisan breads, but I had not gotten into just regular homemade bread.  I tried this out and I'm hooked.  My kids loved this bread and we went through it really fast. I'm going to have to stock up on some wheat flour and make some every week! I used all wheat flour the first time, but you can make it using white flour or 1/2 and 1/2.

Honey Wheat Bread
by Emily from Favorite Family Recipes

3 cups really warm water
2 yeast packets
Dissolve and wait until yeast froths then add:

1/4 c. shortening
1/4 c. honey
1 Tbsp. salt
about 6 cups of flour

Add flour a cup at a time until you have a soft dough. Knead and put into a bowl. Cover with a cloth and let raise about an hour or until it has about doubled in size. (It raises much better if you put in front of a window with the sun shining in or on top of a warm oven).

Knead again and place bread into baking tins and raise again for another hour.

Bake at 350 for 30 minutes until brown on the top. Butter the top of the bread while still in the oven and let cook another 2 min. Remove and let cool about 10 minutes in the pans, then turn out and cool 10 more minutes before slicing.

Makes 3 regular or 2 large loaves.

Family History TuesdayZ | Beautiful

Here is this week's journal prompt :

Each Tuesday, I am going to be offering prompts or ideas. If you don't write in your journal regularly - I am going to encourage you to write just ONCE A WEEK and answer the question/idea that I give on Tuesdays. These ideas hopefully will spark a memory and you will be able to capture that in what you write/record so that it can be left for your children/grandchildren/family/friends. Give as much detail as you can when answering.

Will you do this for me? Will you do this for your families? You can write it down in a journal, you can type it up on a computer or journaling software, you can take a recorder and talk, you can videotape your answers, you can even scrap a page with the journaling. It doesn't matter how you do this - it's just important that you do it. The memories, the dates, the information is the only real thing we can leave to our families when we are gone.

If I come up with other family history ideas - I will be sure to share it here too - and if you want to share with me your ideas - that would be wonderful and I'd be glad to share them here too. Just comment here or email me at dedesmith32@gmail.com.

Revolt | Week 5

The Revolt Now Fitness Program with Nichole Huntsman!

So today marks Day 1 of Week 5!  It's Spring break for my kids this week - so fitting in a workout everyday is going to be difficult, but maybe I can make them do it with me!

Last week, I was re-introduced to something that I have not thought of in years - WALL SITS. It's amazing what this exercise does for you.  I have many memories of PE Wall Sits and then there were the Wall Sits I did when I was on the volleyball and basketball teams. It's hard, but I can really feel the strength that the wall sits have given me this last week. I have tried to do them everyday - in addition to the other exercises on the schedule and boy are my legs feeling it! I'm sore, but also just energized because its the first exercise that I've done that I just feel like I am improving - and just really feeling it especially in my legs.  So don't have time to do a full workout---go see how long you can wall sit for a few minutes and you'll be working those muscles!
